Kennebunkport & Lower Village

Monastery Trail

While staying at the Franciscan Guest House, don’t miss the walking trail at St. Anthony’s Franciscan Monastery. Spanning approximately 1.4 miles, this paved trail through woodlands has benches and shrines, providing perfect spots for reflection and contemplation. There are also two magnificent viewpoints where you are able to see the Kennebunkport bridge, as well as the old posts of the former boathouse. Pick up a trail map at the reception and wander through the tranquil scenes of the river and docked boats to witness the serene beauty of Maine.

Beaches of Kennebunk

Just three quarters of a mile from the Franciscan Guest House are the beaches of Kennebunk known to locals as Gooch’s, Middle, and Mother’s beaches. Gooch’s Beach, the closest to the Guest House, boasts ample sand, making it ideal for swimming and sunbathing. Middle Beach features a rocky shoreline and beautiful views, while Mother’s Beach has a playground, making it the most fun for kids. With a sidewalk stretching along all three beaches, this is the perfect place to spend the day walking, taking in the beautiful scenes of Maine, and living the way life should be lived.

Parsons Beach

Parsons Beach is a hidden gem along the beautiful coastline. This secluded beach offers a serene and unspoiled setting, perfect for those seeking tranquility and natural beauty. With its soft sandy shores, gentle waves, and breathtaking views, Parsons Beach provides an ideal spot for sunbathing and peaceful walks along the water’s edge. Its limited parking spaces and absence of facilities contribute to its quiet and less crowded atmosphere, making it one of Kennebunk’s best-kept secrets.

Rachel Carson Nature Preserve

The Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge is a protected natural area, renowned for its scenic trails that meander through wetlands, salt marshes, and forested areas, which are home to an array of wildlife and plant species. This preserve is a popular destination for walking and bird-watching, offering visitors a unique opportunity to witness stunning panoramic views, peaceful meadows, and the calming presence of Maine’s natural surroundings.

Parson’s Way & Walker’s Point

Parson’s Way Shore Walk in Kennebunkport has expansive ocean views, rocky outcrops and cliffs, and meanders through a mix of coastal vegetation. Along your leisurely walk, you’ll come across Spouting Rock and Blowing Cave, as well as Walker’s Point, the current summer residence of former President George Bush. There are various lookout points with benches where you can rest and take in the expansive views of the ocean. This is also the best place to watch the sunset in the evenings.

Portland & Cape Elizabeth

The bustling city of Portland is only a 45 minute drive from the Franciscan Guest House, making it an ideal destination for a day trip. The city’s vibrant harbor, historic buildings, and cobblestone streets offer an abundance of sights to explore.

On the way there, stop by Cape Elizabeth, renowned for its beautiful beaches, rocky cliffs, and the breathtaking views of the iconic Portland Head Light within Fort Williams Park, which is one of the oldest and most photographed lighthouses in the United States. Enjoy a scenic walk along the trail that hugs the rocky coastline.
